These are just a couple sketches of Claudia, either from last year or this year, not sure. Not even sure where these are to be honest, I'm glad I scanned them, she's really a great model.

Today at life drawing the model was really putting forth some great poses for the group-I had drawn a 'burlesque-ish' type model the day before and it was so evident in her lack of intensity and imagination in her poses that she was not experienced. She boasted that it was her first time at the end of the session- but she was a very sweet girl indeed. She nearly picked my drawing in a contest for a bottle of Stolichnaya, but after having to put to friend to bed that same night because of a vodka incident- I'm glad I lost. I'm glad I did not win that drawing contest. But I'm going to win at one, one day........and we will do vodka shots to celebrate.

Life Drawing in Montreal

On Sunday I made it out to life drawing- Galerie Synesthésie on St. Catherine's.
A nice little studio- they even had juice,wine, cheese, cruditees, and more.
They also sell art supplies at cost.
What a coincidence then when I showed up with nothing but a few pencils and an empty stomach!

I've been back into the swing of life drawing this past month, and although I've got a ways to go , looking back to my life drawings even from 4 years ago I see some slight improvements. I guess that's all we can ask of an artist, just to put forth their best and see what happens.

Life Drawing at the BAG

As running laps in Prospect park is to the marathon runner, drawing from the nude model is to most artists, especially ones who work in the animation industry. Not all however. I have met a couple of extremely talented people who work in L.A. as supervising animators on blockbuster movies who can't life draw, or rather, just won't. They don't need to, they're just that good. For me, life drawing is more than just learning how to capture a mood or tell a story in as few lines as possible. For 3 hours I'm surrounded by people who are all there to draw, the energy in the room is a very positive one and most importantly no one can bother me with text messengers or phone calls. Sometimes I feel that I should draw from the model all day, every day.
Monday nights from 7-10 at the Brooklyn Artists Gym is where you'll find me, although, I'll be busy drawing.

Life Drawings

These are just a few of my favorite life drawings of this past month, I really need to start going a lot more consistently if I'm ever going to improve. Inspired by my online character design instructor, Steve Silver, I've been approaching my drawings differently of late, and I'm feeling good about this new direction.
The female model was just stunning, I don't know if I did her any justice but I tried my best. Then I met up with some friends at the Gowanus Yacht Club over on Smith street and downed a few beers, a nice way to end the day, wouldn't you say?

Figure Drawings

As fall is now directly in front of us, summer is no longer. Instead of sketching in Prospect Park soon I'll have to find other places to draw during the daytime.
Figure drawing starts up again through ASIFA, which is great and I encourage everybody who works in the animation field to get to life drawing sessions, I know for myself they have always elevated my animation and character design. These gestures were drawn a couple of months back, and I've got a lot to improve on, but if I look back at my drawings from a year ago these ones have less line work and seem to have a bit more confidence about them. Hopefully I'll look back at these in a few months and see that I've improved a little.
The drawing of the cars and buildings was done at the entrance of Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn, damn was it ever hot that day!
