Some Recent Sketches

Sketchcrawl happens every couple of months and this is my second time attending one of these events. It's alot of fun, it's like being a part of a gang, minus the whole wearing all the same color part and the hand signs, and I don't think we jumped anyone, but we did get carried away with our pens and pencils. Maybe someone got stabbed with a col-erase?

A couple of sketches I did while waiting for a flight to beautiful, sunny, sometimes rainy British Columbia. I have to admit, I was not looking forward to returning to smelly New York after this trip.

Dear hot girl on cel phone,
please look where you are going because I'm not going to warn you of the open grate in the sidewalk ahead. In fact, I kind of hope you fall into it, then, you might stop yapping away about your personal life outside while you clumsily bump into the people. Don't you have an apartment or dorm room? Why don't you talk in there.

Tek Jansen lost footage

Since I still don't have the internets at home, and have not made any effort to scan in any napkin drawings, I'd like to share with you devoted napkin art fans a little clip from Tek Jansen, season 2 , episode 1. The ending was re-written, thus, this scene was cut and lay dormant on my work drive. I did put alot of effort into the effects, which is probably my most favorite part of animation, well, that and the endless nights of women and beer ;).
No seriously, for the youngsters out there, if you want that, quit drawing NOW., go to business school or something, become a doctor.

Recycled Cereal animation

Ah, Yes........ the spirit of the mythical beer stork has been captured in this piece of animation I did for some cereal pitch (who the heck eats cereal anymore???) so I figured it would be best put to use to captivate the hearts and minds of young Canadian children in Canada. Just as I had been enthralled with fantastic stories as a kid when I would be tucked into bed at night , or sometimes early afternoon depending on what the doctor ordered (true story)....with tales of the Beer Stork (tm). My favorite tale is when the beer stork delivered cases of beer to needy college students who had no fake id's and no money anyways to buy the beer, and how the stork flew through the harsh Canadian winter scape and nearly froze to death, but ended up safely delivering the beer, INTACT!!!! amazing , truly amazing.
I guess the lesson learned here is that Beer is way cooler than Cereal.
And Molson Canadian isn't really that great of a beer either, but better than Honey Bunches of Oats.

Day off today! Nice weather and some pens and pencils, a pink lawnchair...bliss!

subway sketches

just a couple of pages, one from sunday aft. and the other from yesterday evening. People are becoming more and more oblivious to what is happening around them, i mean, I used to get 'busted' all the time for drawing people across from me, but they're all so into they're technological trinkets that they're too busy to notice. that also means I can make faces while I draw them. Blaaaaaaah.

Some old Rough Animation

I was talking to my good friend Sean the other night, and he asked me, "why don't you ever post up some of your Triplettes of Belleville animation?" He continued " I mean, I dig the napkin drawing and the drunken bar sketches and all....but, show me some animation dude!!!" so, Sean, there ya go.
Justin Lee and I were the first animators to take a crack at the Mafioso walking together with the boss(es). I remember walking arm in arm with my quebecois lady friend at the time and noticing how we would try to keep our steps in synch, I used this as inspiration for the walks from this experience, staggering the movements by a couple of frames to avoid any 'twinning'.
these are just a few sc's that I animated.

Tea Lounge, Canal Bar sketches

This couple was probably on their first date, or rather, the day after their 1st date. I mean, this guy was slick, I have no doubt he got with her right away. I'm assuming they weren't yet a couple, because they actually seemed interested in one another.;)
I stopped into Canal Bar on my way home yesterday evening and sketched this, I finally captured Terra, and the elusive Sal. Faye made it in there as well, but she wasn't quite happy with how I had posed her out. Thanks for the mexican food!

old post-it notes

Since I don't have the internets at home (neighbours finally cock blocked me)- I figured since I'm over at the tea lounge I'd post up some old sketches. These ones when Hubert Chan was visiting, and Hubert is going to have another film this year in the Animation Block party film fest....and he's probably going to guilt me into working on it (just kidding) but I'll be proud when it's all over and we're sitting on some rooftop, with some wine and or beer, enjoying being apart of this great NYC animation/art community. The first sketch is of Hubert, who never ceases to impress with his cool hair styles.
